Why? India took the matter to the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) due to the tribal invasion from Pakistan and rising conflict over the princely state of Jammu and Kashmir after its accession to India in October 1947.
Under which article? India invoked Article 35 of the UN Charter, which allows any member to bring a dispute to the attention of the Security Council or the General Assembly.
Result: The UNSC held its first discussion on January 6, 1948 and later passed Resolution 47 (April 21, 1948), recommending a ceasefire and a plebiscite in Kashmir (which has not been held to date).
